NERVE DAMAGE
In rare cases, during wisdom tooth removal, a nerve can get damaged. This will be explained by the dentist before the surgery itself. If an injury occurs, there may be persistent tingling sensation at the corner of the lip, chin or part of the tongue. If at all this happens, it is usually temporary. Though rare, this can happen even when the dental surgery was carried out with utmost care. It is not known why some nerves react this way.
DAMAGE TO NEARBY TOOTH OR FILLINGS
When a wisdom tooth is removed, sometimes the tooth or filling next to it may be chipped or loosened. Though rare these situations do happen, especially when the impacted tooth is too tightly stuck to adjacent tooth, or when the adjacent tooth has suboptimal restorations.
